Base, Column and Saddle:
The base, column, and saddle are composed of Meehanite cast iron, which includes very high dampening characteristics. Spacing of the solid box ways ensure optimal support for the table and saddle in full travel of each axis. Heavily ribbed castings provide superior dampening for high speed machining and aggressive milling. The 54"x16" machine table is fully ground.
Way Surfaces:
The Y & Z-axis are hardened and ground square box ways with Turcite on all axes. The ways are spaced to eliminate table pitch and deformation. The way surfaces on all three axes utilize gibs with easy adjustment to maximize rigidity and maintain geometry throughout the life of the machine tool.
Spindle:
The 8,000 rpm spindle is standard CT40. The permanently greased spindle bearings require no maintenance. The four 70 mm spindle bearings provide superior rigidity. The 8,000 rpm is driven by a 20/15 HP (15/11 kW) AC servo motor. Rigid tapping is standard. Spindle air purge keeps the spindle bearings free of foreign contamination.
Ball Screws & Axis Drives:
Each axis is driven using a high precision, fully ground ball screw. Axis ball screws are supported on each end using angular contact thrust bearings and are perfectly centered between the way surfaces. The axis ball screws are belt driven with AC servo type drive motors.
Inspire Kinematic Compensation Suite:
Inspire consolidates industry leading best practices compensation techniques into the control software ensuring you get the most from the solid, rigid mechanical foundation detailed above. The Kinematic Compensation Suite includes ISO 230-2 multi-pass axial compensation for improved positional accuracy; reversal spike compensation to deal with sightlines on molds; squareness compensation to tweak perpendicularity of axes; and digital field bus communications eliminating drift and analog signal noise.
Automatic Tool Changer:
A 24 pocket, bi-directional, carousel ATC is standard. It will accept tools up to 3.46” (88 mm) or 6.89” (175 mm) with adjacent sides empty. The V flange is standard CAT40 and BT40 tooling is optional.
Lubrication:
Automatic lubrication is provided to the way surfaces and ball screws with oil to eliminate wear. Way oil is delivered by metered valves, which precisely control the volume. A low oil-level alarm warns the user preventing possible damage to the way surfaces and ball screws.
Removable Table Chip Guard:
The table chip guard is conveniently designed to allow the operator to easily remove the guarding. This convenience offers the best solution to chip and coolant containment in normal working conditions, and when an oversized work piece needs machining the guarding is easily removed allowing oversized parts to hang over the table.
Edit Key:
The edit key enables protection of programs as well as parameters on the CNC control. Removal of the key limits a user from loading programs and parameters such as work coordinates and tool offsets. With the edit key in the off position the data in the CNC control is available for editing.
Rest Roughing Machining Cycle:
This is a standard conversational feature on all INSPIRE CNC milling machines. With Rest Roughing a large diameter cutter is used to quickly remove material from a pocket or profile and then one or more smaller cutters are used machine away only the material that the large cutter could not reach. Best of all, the control does all the work for you, automatically computing what material the previous cutter left behind.
In the example shown, Rest Roughing improved cycle time by more than 33% using a 0.50” D end mill followed by the 0.25” cutter, over just using the 0.25“cutter alone.
ChipBoss™ (Option):
A high efficiency conversational pocketing feature available on all INSPIRE CNC milling machines. Benefits include faster cycle times, improved tool life, and less wear on your machine tool.
ChipBoss™ is a modern cutting strategy allowing for higher metal removal rates by increasing the depth of cut while controlling the allowable cut width, reducing cycle times, extending tool life and reducing wear on your machine tool. It is not uncommon to use a depth of cut equal to 3 times the tool diameter with the spiral fill toolpaths generated by ChipBoss™. This cutting strategy originally available only on high end CAM packages is now available conversationally on profiles, open pockets, and pockets with islands. Combine it with tapered wall and Rest Roughing on your Milltronics INSPIRE control and multiply your machine’s productivity.
Milltronics Digital Setup Assistant, DSA:
Download the free companion app that connects your phone to your INSPIRE controller and allows you to access training material, instructional videos and information about the part programs stored on the INSPIRE enabled CNC machine tool over your shop’s Wi-Fi network. These features are included free on Milltronics machines with the INSPIRE control software.
Enable the DSA Plus features to do even more, collect and store the prints, notes, setup instructions with your part program digitally right on your INSPIRE CNC. Take a picture of the fixturing or shoot a video on your phone and store it with your part program. Keep all the data together and accessible because making money requires more know how than just making chips.
MotionBoss™ (Option):
Patented control technology allows you to maximize cutting efficiency by managing the balance between speed and precision. Using a racing analogy, MotionBoss™ allows you to set the width of the track along with the maximum speed, the Inspire control then determines the optimal path around the track, automatically accelerating between line segments or slowing down for a tight turn, providing you with a faster cutting time, less chatter, less vibration, and less machine jerk.
Complete Tap Control:
With MotionBoss™ Milltronics standard Double Tap Out feature is enhanced to support up to a 10x tap retract with full override control, in-hole cycle interrupt, control-based tap extraction on e-stop recovery, and control-based tap extraction after a power loss on controls fitted with the Power Management Option.
Power Management (Option):
Programmable control shut down, configurable using an idle timer and M-code to initiate a proper shutdown of the control and machine tool. Included in this package is UPS power backup keeping power to the controller should you encounter an unexpected power outage. By powering the controller during a power event, the CNC can note the state of the machine when a power outage occurs simplifying recovery restart once power is restored.
Enhanced Halt Resume Processing:
With the Inspire control picking up where you left off is easier, the control automatically restores your spindle and coolant setting once you hit resume after from a halted cycle.
